Electromagnetic pulses (EMPs) have the potential to cause major extended disruptions of utilities and to damage microprocessor-based devices--which control cars & most appliances manufactured during the past twenty years.
Todd Lovelace, K1KVA returns with a newly-developed presentation on electromagnetic pulses and what can be expected if an attack occurs. Todd is a mentor and leader of First Robotics. He is a retired Electrical Engineer from JEA as well as a self described geek.
"Effects of an EMP Attack on the US" provides a glimpse of what Jacksonville could expect to experience if any of the critical national utility grid nodes were damaged by an attack.
Todd developed this presentation for "INFRAGARD" --a nationwide professional group that includes representatives from FDLE, FBI, and critical infrastructure managers.
Their concerns include: (1) What we could expect to have happen (2) How would each critical infrastructure be affected (3) What could the infrastructure do to protect itself and finally (4) What can employees do to protect their families.
Todd simulates a sneak attack followed by a description of what we would likely experience here on Day One and on Day Eight. He uses a Chicago grid attack as an example of a key location where disruptions would have serious ripple effects nationwide. His research and projections are based strictly on technical papers concerning EMP.
